Narita sits well outside Tokyo, so whether to sleep at the airport end or in the city comes down to the clock more than the map. Operators publish both halves: how long the ride is, and which train is the last out of Narita and the first in. This page sets those against five hotels at or near the airport, the shuttle each states, and one hotel in Narita city. Room rates are left out because they move with the date.

The 30-second answer
On weekdays Keisei’s last Skyliner leaves Narita Airport at 11:00 p.m., its last Rapid for Keisei Ueno leaves Terminal 1 at 10:33 p.m., and its last regular train of all is a 12:09 a.m. local to Sogo-Sando. For a morning flight, the first Skyliner from Keisei Ueno leaves at 5:40 a.m. and reaches Terminal 2·3 at 6:21, and the first Keisei local from Ueno leaves at 5:03 a.m. A check-in before the Skyliner arrives points to that local or to a hotel at the airport end, where the shuttles that state their stops serve Terminals 1 and 2. Tokyo works for most flights the trains cover.

How long the trains and buses take

Each operator gives a time for its own train, and the time depends on which terminal station it counts. Keisei gives 36 minutes from Nippori to Airport Terminal 2·3 Station and 41 minutes from Keisei Ueno. Terminal 1 is the last stop on the line, and the Keisei and JR East timetables put it 2 to 6 minutes beyond Terminal 2·3.

Service, as the operator names it Tokyo-side stop Minutes Narita-side stop
Keisei Skyliner Nippori 36, fastest Terminal 2·3 station
Keisei Skyliner Keisei Ueno 41, fastest Terminal 2·3 station
Keisei Access Express Oshiage 46, Keisei’s example “Narita Airport”
Keisei Rapid Limited Express or Limited Express, Main Line Oshiage 64, Keisei’s example Terminal 2·3 station
JR Narita Express Tokyo 53, fastest Terminal 1 station
TYO-NRT bus Tokyo Station About 62 to 70: from Tokyo Station, Terminal 3 62, Terminal 2 65, Terminal 1 70. To Tokyo Station, 68 from Terminal 1 Terminals 1, 2, 3

Keisei describes the Access Express as the baseline route and the Main Line trains as taking somewhat longer but running more often. The Access Express mainly serves Oshiage, Asakusa and Haneda Airport, and the Main Line mainly serves Nippori and Ueno. TYO-NRT presents “The Access Narita” and “Tokyo Shuttle” as one bus service. Its home page shows 65 minutes as the shortest time between Tokyo Station and the airport, and it says road conditions can lengthen the trip.

On foot, Narita Airport says Terminal 1 is 5 minutes from Narita Airport Station, and Terminals 2 and 3 are 5 and 10 minutes from Airport Terminal 2·3 Station.

Screenshot of Keisei's Skyliner FAQ comparison table: Access Express via the Narita Sky Access Line, 46 minutes between Narita Airport and Oshiage, and Rapid Limited Express or Limited Express via the Keisei Main Line, 64 minutes from Narita Airport Terminal 2·3 Station to Oshiage.

Last train out, first train in

Times are when a train leaves the station, so your own immigration and baggage time comes first. Keisei’s Main Line rows are regular trains only, from station timetables Keisei labels “revised December 13, 2025.” JR rows are weekday.

Keisei says (in Japanese) that early-morning trains toward Tokyo and evening trains toward the airport run via the Keisei Main Line, as the Morning Liner and Evening Liner. Keisei’s Liner timetable gives 12:13 a.m. at Narita Airport for weekday Evening Liner 213, which leaves Keisei Ueno at 11:00 p.m. Keisei’s Ueno timetable also lists locals that end at Keisei Narita, leaving at 11:10 p.m. on weekdays and 11:13 p.m. on weekends and holidays.

Airport hotel shuttles, five of the eleven

Narita Airport’s list of hotel shuttles has an “In and around the airport” section with 11 hotels, and this page covers five of them: Narita Tobu Hotel Airport, Hotel Nikko Narita, Narita Gateway Hotel, Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport (the airport lists it as Hilton Narita) and nine hours Narita Airport. The airport gives the five as minutes by hotel bus, except nine hours, which it lists as an “Airport hotel.” The other six are listed at 10 to 35 minutes by hotel bus.

Hotel Airport’s list, by hotel bus Shuttle Stops
Narita Tobu Hotel Airport About 5 to 10 minutes from Terminal 1, 10 to 15 from Terminal 2 Free Terminal 1 stop 16, Terminal 2 stop 25
Hotel Nikko Narita About 5 to 10 minutes from Terminal 1, 10 to 15 from Terminal 2 Free, no reservation Terminal 1 stop 16, Terminal 2 stop 33
Narita Gateway Hotel About 20 minutes Free. Hotel to airport needs a reservation Terminal 1 stop 16, Terminal 2 stop 26
Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport 15 to 20 minutes Free, limited seats Terminal 1 stop 16, Terminal 2 stop 26

The hotels’ own minutes do not all match the airport’s. Tobu says about 5 to 10 minutes overall, then 10 to 15 from the hotel to Terminal 1 and 3 to 5 to Terminal 2, which reverses the airport’s order. Nikko says 10 to 15 minutes and Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport says about 15. The airport adds that its list is based on information from each hotel and that some bus operations may change or be cancelled.

Terminal 3 is the gap. Tobu says there is no shuttle bus to the hotel from Terminal 3 and tells guests to go to Terminal 2. Nikko says there is no direct bus from Terminal 3: take the airport’s terminal bus (about 5 minutes) or walk 10 to 15 minutes to Terminal 2. Gateway and Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport list stops at Terminals 1 and 2 only.

  • Gateway marks its timetable “Effective August 1, 2026.” Hotel buses to the airport run from 5:00 a.m. to 10:20 p.m. Buses from the airport run from 7:30 a.m. at Terminal 2 and 7:40 a.m. at Terminal 1 to 10:35 p.m. and 10:45 p.m. Its airport side has no Terminal 2 departure between 12:25 and 2:45 p.m.
  • Nikko says its 4:30, 5:10 and 5:50 a.m. buses from the hotel go directly to Terminal 3. Its front desk is open 24 hours, and it asks you to tell the hotel if you will check in after 11:00 p.m.

A capsule hotel in Terminal 2

The capsule hotel nine hours Narita Airport is in Terminal 2 on the first basement floor, before the security check. Narita Airport says it is open 365 days a year with a 24-hour front desk and check-in, and with check-out at 10:00 a.m. Narita Airport’s night and early morning notes describe it as a capsule hotel in Parking P-2, connected to Terminal 2, and warn that it may be full on the day of your flight, so booking ahead is recommended.

As of October 2026, from Narita Airport: the capsule hotel page and the night and early morning page.

The smallest double-bed room at each hotel

Where the hotel lists every room type, the row is the smallest room with one bed 55 inches (140 cm) wide or more that is not listed for one guest only. That covers Tobu, Nikko and Gateway. The Hilton and Richmond rows are single room types and are not confirmed as the smallest.

Hotel Room Area Bed (width × length) Guests
Narita Tobu Hotel Airport Standard Double, East wing 237 ft² (22 m²) 71 × 81 in (180 × 205 cm) 1 to 2
Hotel Nikko Narita Economy Double 172 ft² (16 m²) 63 × 77 in (160 × 195 cm) 2
Narita Gateway Hotel Semi-double 194 ft² (18 m²) 55 in (140 cm), length not listed Not listed
Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport Queen Guest Room (one of the hotel’s room types) Not listed One queen-size bed, width not listed Sleeps 2
Richmond Hotel Narita Double Room (one of the hotel’s room types) 194 ft² (18 m²) 61 in (154 cm), length not listed 2

Tobu describes its Standard Double as a king-size bed. Nikko’s 172 ft² room has a wider bed than Gateway’s 194 ft² one, and Gateway lists no guest count for any room. The rule leaves out Nikko’s Comfort Single, whose 55 inch (140 cm) bed is listed for one guest, Tobu’s Casual Twin with two 47 inch (120 cm) beds, and Gateway’s Economy Twin with two 39 inch (100 cm) beds.

Narita city, 10 minutes by train

Keisei says the city of Narita is only 10 minutes from the airport by train. Narita Airport’s list of hotels “Around the Narita Station” has ten, with walking minutes. All four listed here are within 5 minutes’ walk of Keisei Narita:

  • APA Hotel Keisei-Narita-Ekimae, about 1 minute from Keisei Narita
  • Meet Inn Narita, about 1 minute from Keisei Narita and 6 from JR Narita
  • Comfort Hotel Narita, 2 minutes from Keisei Narita and 5 from JR Narita
  • Richmond Hotel Narita, about 5 minutes from Keisei Narita and 10 from JR Narita

Richmond itself puts the hotel about 5 minutes from Keisei Narita’s East Exit.

Three of the airport hotels each state a bus from Narita Station. Gateway’s free bus leaves from the East Exit, stop 4, and is listed from 6:35 a.m. to 11:25 p.m. Tobu’s bus from stop 3 at the JR station’s east exit is for hotel guests only. Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport says its free shuttle from JR Narita Station takes about 20 minutes.

As of October 2026, from Keisei: the FAQ. From Narita Airport: the hotel list. From Richmond Hotels (in Japanese): the Narita guide page. From the hotels: the Gateway access page, Tobu access page and Hilton Tokyo Narita Airport’s wedding site (in Japanese).

Matching the hotel to the flight

  • Landing late. Compare the time you will clear the terminal with Keisei’s weekday trains from Terminal 1: Rapid for Keisei Ueno at 10:33 p.m., Skyliner at 11:00 p.m., last regular local at 12:09 a.m. Gateway’s last bus from the airport leaves at 10:35 p.m. (Terminal 2) or 10:45 p.m. (Terminal 1).
  • Leaving early from Tokyo. Check your airline’s check-in time against the first Skyliner from Keisei Ueno reaching Terminal 1 at 6:24 a.m., or the 5:03 a.m. local, whose arrival time is not in Keisei’s station timetable.
  • Leaving early from an airport hotel. Nikko lists a 4:30 a.m. bus to Terminal 3, and Gateway’s first bus to the airport is at 5:00 a.m. Check that your own terminal is one of the stops.
  • Staying farther out. I’ve stayed near Chiba Station before a flight from Narita.
  • Flying from Terminal 3. The hotels that state their stops serve Terminals 1 and 2, so plan the walk or terminal bus from Terminal 2.

The short version

  1. Keisei’s fastest Skyliner is 36 minutes to Nippori and 41 to Keisei Ueno, JR’s fastest Narita Express is 53 to Tokyo Station, and TYO-NRT’s bus is about 62 to 70.
  2. On weekdays Keisei’s Skyliner leaves Narita until 11:00 p.m. and its regular Main Line trains until 12:09 a.m. From Keisei Ueno, the first local for Narita Airport is 5:03 a.m. and the first Skyliner 5:40 a.m.
  3. The hotel shuttles that state their stops serve Terminals 1 and 2, and the capsule hotel is inside Terminal 2. The smallest double-bed rooms at Tobu, Nikko and Gateway run from 172 to 237 ft² (16 to 22 m²).
