A hotel near an airport is usually a trade: an easy flight, a long ride into the city. Fukuoka City Subway puts Hakata 5 minutes and Tenjin 11 minutes from the airport station, and Fukuoka Airport says its domestic terminal is directly connected to that station. With rides that short, the choice among Hakata, Tenjin and a hotel near the airport depends on what the rest of the trip looks like.

Six hotels follow, two per area, and they range from budget hotels to city hotels. The walks and room figures are the hotels’ own. There are no advertising or affiliate links on this page. Room rates are left out because they move with the date, so the tables show room size and bed, not price.

Each double is the smallest room with one bed 55 inches (140 cm) wide or more that the hotel does not name a single or list for one guest only. Each twin is the smallest room the hotel calls a twin. Accessible, connecting, bunk, loft and women-only Ladies rooms are set aside.

The 30-second answer
Hakata fits most trips because it is the Shinkansen station and, in Fukuoka City Subway’s own times, 5 minutes from the airport by subway, against 11 for Tenjin, which is 5 minutes from Hakata. The two Hakata hotels are 2 and 8 minutes on foot from Hakata Station and the two Tenjin hotels 3 and 5 from Tenjin Station, while the two airport hotels are 10 to 13 minutes on foot from the station or the domestic terminal and run free shuttles to the domestic terminal in the morning. The smallest double-bed rooms at the five hotels that list one run 129 to 215 ft² (12 to 20 m²), and the smallest twins at all six run 205 to 276 ft² (19 to 25.6 m²).

Six hotels in three areas

Hotel Area Walk, as the hotel states it
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo Hakata Hakata Station, Hakata Exit, 2 minutes
Super Hotel Premier Hakata Chikushiguchi Hakata Hakata Station, about 8 minutes
Hotel Monterey La Soeur Fukuoka Tenjin Subway Tenjin Station, Exit 4, about 3 minutes
Richmond Hotel Tenjin Nishidori Tenjin Subway Tenjin Station, 5 minutes
Hotel Front Inn Fukuoka Airport Airport Fukuoka Airport Station, about 13 minutes. Domestic terminal north arrivals gate, about 13 minutes. South arrivals gate, about 11 minutes
Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport Airport Fukuoka Airport Station, about 10 minutes. Domestic terminal north arrivals gate (door G), about 12 minutes

As of October 2026, all in Japanese. From JR Kyushu Hotels: the Blossom Hakata Chuo page. From Super Hotel: the Premier Hakata page and its room gallery. From Hotel Monterey: the La Soeur Fukuoka access page. From Richmond Hotels: the Tenjin Nishidori page. From Hotel Front Inn Fukuoka Airport: the access page. From Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport: the hotel page.

The smallest double runs from 129 to 215 ft²

Hotel Area Room Room size Bed (width × length) Guests In-room bath
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo Hakata Standard Double (スタンダードダブル) 205 to 215 ft² (19 to 20 m²) 63 × 79 in (160 × 200 cm) 2 Not listed
Super Hotel Premier Hakata Chikushiguchi Hakata Standard Room (スタンダードルーム) 129 ft² (12 m²) 59 × 79 in (150 × 200 cm) 1 to 2 Unit bath, on the hotel facility list
Hotel Monterey La Soeur Fukuoka Tenjin Standard Double (スタンダードダブル) 161 to 174 ft² (15.0 to 16.2 m²) 55 × 77 in (140 × 195 cm) Not listed Not listed
Richmond Hotel Tenjin Nishidori Tenjin Moderate Single / Double (モデレートシングル/ダブル) 185 ft² (17.2 m²) 55 × 79 in (140 × 200 cm) 1 to 2 Unit bath
Hotel Front Inn Fukuoka Airport Airport Moderate Double (モデレートダブル) 151 ft² (14 m²) 59 × 79 in (150 × 200 cm) 1 to 2 Not listed
Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport Airport No double listed Not applicable Not applicable Not applicable Not applicable

As of October 2026, from each hotel’s room list, all in Japanese: the Blossom Hakata Chuo rooms page, Super Hotel’s room gallery with its facility list, Monterey’s Standard Double page and Standard Single page, the Richmond rooms page, the Front Inn rooms page and the GranView page. Not listed means the hotel gives no figure for that item.

Five of the six hotels list a double, and the beds run from 55 to 63 inches (140 to 160 cm) wide: 55 at Richmond and Monterey La Soeur, 59 at Super Hotel and Front Inn, and 63 at Blossom. Monterey gives its Standard Double as a range and does not say which rooms are the larger ones, and it gives no guest count. Richmond names its room Single / Double and lists it for 1 to 2 guests, so it is the double row even though the name includes Single. Super Hotel’s 129 ft² (12 m²) is a small room with a wide bed, and How Big Is a 12 m² Japanese Hotel Room? shows what that size looks like furnished.

Screenshot of Super Hotel Premier Hakata Chikushiguchi's Japanese room gallery, with the Standard Room at 129 square feet (12 square meters), a 59 by 79 inch (150 by 200 cm) bed and 1 to 2 guests, and the Hollywood Twin Room at 205 square feet (19 square meters) with two 47 by 79 inch (120 by 200 cm) beds.
Super Hotel Premier Hakata Chikushiguchi’s Standard Room and Hollywood Twin Room (in Japanese). Screenshot.

GranView’s Single Room has a 55 inch (140 cm) bed too, in 140 ft² (13 m²), but GranView lists it for 1 guest, and its only other one-bed room is the Universal Room, which is set aside as accessible. That is why GranView has no double row.

Screenshot of Richmond Hotel Tenjin Nishidori's Japanese rooms page, showing the Moderate Single / Double at 185 square feet (17.2 square meters) with one 55 by 79 inch (140 by 200 cm) bed, 1 to 2 guests and a unit bath, and the Moderate Twin at 274 square feet (25.5 square meters) with two 47 by 79 inch (120 by 200 cm) beds.
Richmond Hotel Tenjin Nishidori’s Moderate Single / Double and Moderate Twin entries (in Japanese). Screenshot.

Only some hotels state the bath. Richmond lists a unit bath for the double and says the Moderate Twin has the bath, toilet and sink separate, and Super Hotel’s facility list includes a unit bath. The Unit Bath in a Japanese Business Hotel explains what that type means. For a soak, Super Hotel Premier also lists a natural hot spring bath for guests. Can Two Adults Sleep on a 140 cm Hotel Bed? covers the wall-side problem that a bed width cannot show.

Twins: 205 to 276 ft², and one with two different beds

Hotel Area Room Room size Beds (width × length) Guests In-room bath
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo Hakata Superior Twin (スーペリアツイン) 269 ft² (25 m²) 47 × 79 in (120 × 200 cm), the one bed size listed 2 Not listed
Super Hotel Premier Hakata Chikushiguchi Hakata Hollywood Twin (ハリウッドツインルーム) 205 ft² (19 m²) Two beds, 47 × 79 in (120 × 200 cm) each 1 to 3 Unit bath, on the hotel facility list
Hotel Monterey La Soeur Fukuoka Tenjin Standard Twin (スタンダードツイン) 239 to 276 ft² (22.2 to 25.6 m²) Two beds, 45 × 77 in (115 × 195 cm) each Not listed Not listed
Richmond Hotel Tenjin Nishidori Tenjin Moderate Twin (モデレートツイン) 274 ft² (25.5 m²) Two beds, 47 × 79 in (120 × 200 cm) each 1 to 4, with extra beds Bath, toilet and sink separate
Hotel Front Inn Fukuoka Airport Airport Moderate Twin (モデレートツイン) 248 ft² (23 m²) Two beds, 47 × 79 in (120 × 200 cm) each 1 to 2 Separate type (セパレート)
Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport Airport Twin Room (ツインルーム) 237 ft² (22 m²) Two beds, 43 × 77 in (110 × 195 cm) and 63 × 77 in (160 × 195 cm) 2 Unit bath with washlet (ウォシュレット付)

As of October 2026, from the room pages linked in the table, all in Japanese. The inches are converted from centimeters, and the square feet from square meters.

GranView’s twin is the unusual row. Its two beds are different sizes, 43 inches (110 cm) and 63 inches (160 cm) wide, so the room has one narrower bed and one wider bed for its 2 guests.

Screenshot of Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport's Japanese room section, showing the Twin Room at 237 square feet (22 square meters) with two beds of 43 by 77 inches (110 by 195 cm) and 63 by 77 inches (160 by 195 cm) for 2 guests and a unit bath with washlet, and the Single Room at 140 square feet (13 square meters) with a 55 by 77 inch (140 by 195 cm) bed for 1 guest.
Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport’s Twin Room and Single Room entries (in Japanese). Screenshot.

Super Hotel’s Hollywood Twin has two 47 inch (120 cm) beds for 1 to 3 guests, and Super Hotel does not say whether the beds are joined. Front Inn’s Hollywood Twin has the same 248 ft² (23 m²) as its Moderate Twin, with two 41 inch (103 cm) beds set side by side, which Front Inn describes as the Hollywood type.

Blossom gives a twin bed width and no bed count, so its row says “the one bed size listed”. Blossom lists the room as a twin.

Screenshot of JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo's Japanese rooms page, with the Standard Double at 205 to 215 square feet (19 to 20 square meters), a 63 by 79 inch (160 by 200 cm) bed and 2 guests, and the Superior Twin at 269 square feet (25 square meters), a 47 by 79 inch (120 by 200 cm) bed and 2 guests.
JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Hakata Chuo’s Standard Double and Superior Twin (in Japanese). Screenshot.

Monterey La Soeur gives the Standard Twin bed size as 115 × 195 cm and says that for 3 or more guests the room has its two regular beds plus an extra bed of 43 × 74 in (110 × 188 cm). The room size is a range, and the page does not say which twins are larger.

From the airport to Hakata and Tenjin

Fukuoka City Subway lists travel times for typical destinations: Fukuoka Airport to Hakata 5 minutes, Fukuoka Airport to Tenjin 11 minutes, and Tenjin to Hakata 5 minutes. Check the subway’s timetable for your day before you plan a first or last train.

Fukuoka Airport says the Domestic Passenger Terminal Building is directly connected to Fukuoka Airport Station. From the International Terminal, Fukuoka Airport says to take the free shuttle bus to the domestic terminal and go down to the subway there. It shows 10 minutes for that shuttle, and its shuttle timetable lists buses every 5 to 7 minutes from early morning to after 11 p.m., with the note that the times are estimates.

As of October 2026, from the Fukuoka City Subway: the route map page and, in Japanese, the timetable page. From Fukuoka Airport: the access page, the subway page and the inter-terminal shuttle page.

The airport hotels: walk, or take the morning shuttle

Front Inn and GranView give their walks from the domestic terminal side, so no walk from the international terminal is among their figures. GranView says that because of construction at the airport, guests leave by door D and follow a temporary walkway, and it gives its terminal walk from door G.

Each airport hotel has a free shuttle to the domestic terminal. Front Inn’s goes to the domestic terminal’s drop-off area about every 20 to 25 minutes between 6:10 and 10:15 a.m. Guests reserve at the front desk at check-in, and Front Inn describes only the ride from the hotel to the airport. GranView’s goes to the domestic terminal’s south drop-off. Its first departure is at 6:05 a.m., then every 20 minutes from 6:20 to 10:00, and it needs a booking at least 15 minutes ahead. GranView says it does not do airport pickups, and that since April 1, 2025 its shuttle uses the south stop instead of the north one.

So the shuttles are for morning departures. After landing, the figures in the first table are the walks from the domestic terminal side.

As of October 2026, from Hotel Front Inn Fukuoka Airport (in Japanese): the access page and the parking and transfer page. From Hotel GranView Fukuoka Airport (in Japanese): the hotel page and the Q&A page.

Hakata and the Shinkansen

Fukuoka City’s tourism guide, GO FUKUOKA, says Shinkansen and limited express trains connecting Kyushu’s major cities travel to and from Hakata Station. It lists bullet train times to Hakata Station of 15 minutes from Kokura and 1 hour 10 minutes from Hiroshima, and marks them as estimates.

As of October 2026, from Fukuoka City’s tourism guide: the getting-to page and the getting-around page.

Matching the area to the trip

  • Airport hotels. Both are on the domestic terminal side, and by their own statements their free shuttles go to the domestic terminal in the morning. Fukuoka Airport shows a free shuttle bus between its two terminals for anyone landing at the international terminal. An airport hotel’s trip to the city is a walk plus a subway ride, and the two are separate figures in the sections above.
  • A Shinkansen the next morning, or a day trip by rail. Hakata, where Fukuoka City says the Shinkansen stops.
  • Tenjin. Both Tenjin hotels are close to Tenjin Station, with Hakata one subway ride away.
  • A late landing. Check the subway timetable for the day and the hotel’s check-in hours first. GranView says it does no airport pickups, and Front Inn describes only a ride to the airport.
  • One bed for two. Read Bed and Guests together.
  • Separate beds. Use the twin table, and look at GranView’s unequal pair before you book it for two adults.

I’ve stayed in Tenjin and near the airport, and I’ve gone from the airport to a hotel by subway from the domestic terminal and by taxi. For a first night I would take any of the three areas.

The short version

  1. Fukuoka City Subway lists Hakata 5 minutes and Tenjin 11 minutes from Fukuoka Airport, and Tenjin 5 minutes from Hakata. Hakata is also the Shinkansen station.
  2. The four Hakata and Tenjin hotels are 2 to 8 minutes on foot from their stations, and the two airport hotels are 10 to 13 minutes on foot from the station or the domestic terminal, with free morning shuttles to the domestic terminal.
  3. The smallest double-bed rooms run 129 to 215 ft² (12 to 20 m²) at five of the six hotels, and the smallest twins run 205 to 276 ft² (19 to 25.6 m²) at all six.
