A hotel with Shinjuku in its name can be 3 minutes from a Shinjuku Station exit or 20 minutes from any JR exit, and the name alone will not tell you which. Sunroute Plaza and JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom state 3 minutes from the South Exit, Keio Plaza states 5 from the West Exit, Hotel Gracery states 5 from the East Exit, Shinjuku Granbell states 15 from the East Exit, and Sotetsu Fresa Inn Higashi-Shinjuku states 20 from JR Shinjuku Station. Which exit a hotel measures from matters as much as its name.
Eight hotels follow, two on each of four sides of the station (east, northeast, south and west), from chain business hotels to larger city hotels. The walks and room figures are the hotels’ own. There are no advertising or affiliate links on this page. Room rates are left out because they move with the date, so the tables show room size and bed only.
Each double is the smallest room the hotel does not call a single, with one bed 55 inches (140 cm) wide or more. A room named Single / Double would count if listed for 1 to 2 guests. Each twin is the smallest room the hotel calls a twin. Accessible, connecting, bunk and loft rooms are set aside, and so are rooms restricted to certain guests, such as women-only floors.

A Kabukicho address, a 15-minute walk
East side, Kabukicho. GO TOKYO, Tokyo’s official tourism guide, calls the east side of the station the access point for shopping, dining and entertainment. It says Kabukicho is “a neighborhood that doesn’t sleep,” where bars, restaurants, karaoke boxes and internet cafés close late or stay open all night. It puts Golden Gai a few minutes from the East Exit, with around 280 bars in six rows of alleys, most opening around 20:00. It also says public transport runs until around midnight.
Gracery and Granbell both have Kabukicho addresses, and their walks differ. Gracery states 5 minutes from the East Exit and 3 from Seibu-Shinjuku Station. Granbell states about 15 minutes from the East Exit, about 4 from Higashi-Shinjuku Exit A1 and about 7 from Shinjuku-sanchome Exit E1.
East side, Shinjuku-sanchome. GO TOKYO lists Shinjuku-sanchome Station on the Marunouchi, Fukutoshin and Toei Shinjuku subway lines. Tokyu Stay gives its walks by exit: 30 seconds to 1 minute from C3 (stairs only, and its two pages differ on the figure), 1 minute from C4 (up escalator only) and 2 minutes from C6 (elevator). With a suitcase, the exit you pick changes the walk. Tokyu Stay also gives about 8 minutes from the JR East Exit, following the signs for Yasukuni Dori.
Northeast, toward Shin-Okubo. Fresa Inn is beside Higashi-Shinjuku Exit B2 and states 15 minutes from JR Shin-Okubo and 20 from JR Shinjuku. Granbell states about 13 from Shin-Okubo, and it lists the Fukutoshin and Oedo lines at Higashi-Shinjuku. GO TOKYO says the Korean town on Okubo-dori in Shin-Okubo is the largest in the country.
South side. GO TOKYO says the South Exit leads to the Shinjuku Expressway Bus Terminal (Busta Shinjuku) and NEWoMan, and that Lumine Shinjuku is beside it. Sunroute Plaza and Blossom each state 3 minutes from the South Exit and from Busta Shinjuku, and 1 to 2 minutes from the Toei subway. Both give Shibuya-ward addresses in Yoyogi, though they measure their walks from Shinjuku Station.
West side, Nishi-Shinjuku. GO TOKYO says Nishi-Shinjuku, west of the station, houses a forest of skyscrapers and electronics megastores, and that the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building has observation decks. Keio Plaza states 5 minutes from the West Exit, walking the underground passage toward that building, and 1 minute from Tocho-mae Station. Washington states 8 minutes from Shinjuku Station and 5 from Tocho-mae.
As of October 2026, from GO TOKYO: the Shinjuku guide, the Shinjuku shopping guide, the Golden Gai page and the Okubo page. Hotel walks and addresses are from the access sources linked in the first section.

As of October 2026, from Hotel Gracery Shinjuku: the guest rooms page. From Tokyu Stay: the room page and the reopening page. From Shinjuku Granbell Hotel: the room page. From Keio Plaza Hotel: the Standard room page and the room list. From Sotetsu Hotels (in Japanese): the Fresa Inn rooms page and the Sunroute Plaza rooms page. From JR Kyushu Hotels (in Japanese): the Blossom rooms page. From Shinjuku Washington Hotel (in Japanese): the rooms page. Not listed means the hotel gives no figure for that item. The inches are converted from centimeters, and the square feet from square meters.
Seven of the eight start between 156 and 253 ft² (14.5 and 23.5 m²). Washington gives one size range for all its double types, 140 to 216 ft² (13 to 20.1 m²), so it is noted separately and not counted in that span. Two bed widths divide the table. Granbell’s, Fresa Inn’s and Blossom’s smallest doubles have 55 inch (140 cm) beds in 156 to 194 ft² (14.5 to 18 m²), and Gracery’s, Tokyu Stay’s, Sunroute’s and Keio Plaza’s have 63 inch (160 cm) beds, starting at 161 ft² (15 m²). Tokyu Stay and Granbell list the same 161 ft² (15 m²), and Tokyu Stay’s bed is the wider one. Tokyu Stay reopened on September 29, 2026 after a renovation, and its room page now lists five types, with the Superior Queen the smallest. Can Two Adults Sleep on a 140 cm Hotel Bed? covers what a 140 cm width leaves each person.

Gracery’s Standard Double is left out of this table. The hotel lists it at 194 ft² (18 m²) with a 140 cm bed, but its description says two 120 cm beds and calls the room a standard twin, so it appears in the twin table instead. At Sunroute Plaza, the 169 ft² (15.7 m²) room with a 55 inch (140 cm) bed is named Standard Single (Economy Double) and listed for 1 guest, or 2 as an Economy Double, so the table starts at the Standard Double. Washington’s Single, listed for 1 guest with a 140 cm bed, is set aside the same way.

Gracery’s Standard Double and Standard Twin descriptions state a separate bath and toilet, and Blossom says its twin-type rooms have a bathroom with a washing area. The room entries for the other six hotels give no bath type. The Unit Bath in a Japanese Business Hotel explains what each type means.

Twins: 178 to 323 ft², and three rows with a catch
| Hotel | Side | Room | Room size | Beds (width × length) | Guests |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Hotel Gracery Shinjuku | East | Standard Double, described as a twin | 194 ft² (18 m²) | Two beds, 47 in (120 cm) each in the description, 55 in (140 cm) in the spec, length not listed | 1 to 2 |
| Tokyu Stay Shinjuku | East | Deluxe Twin | 323 ft² (30 m²) | 43 in (110 cm), number of beds not listed | 3 |
| Shinjuku Granbell Hotel | Northeast | Economy Twin | 183 ft² (17 m²) | Two beds, 33 in (85 cm) each, length not listed | 2 |
| Sotetsu Fresa Inn Higashi-Shinjuku | Northeast | Twin (ツイン) | 230 to 257 ft² (21.4 to 23.9 m²) | Two beds, 47 in (120 cm) each, length not listed | 2, and 1 |
| Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku | South | Standard Twin (スタンダードツイン) | 249 ft² (23.1 m²) | Two beds, 47 in (120 cm) each, length not listed | Not listed |
| JR Kyushu Hotel Blossom Shinjuku | South | Superior Twin (スーペリアツイン) | 269 ft² (25 m²) | 47 × 79 in (120 × 200 cm), the one bed size listed | 2 |
| Keio Plaza Hotel Tokyo | West | Standard, twin layout | 253 ft² (23.5 m²) | 43 × 80 in (110 × 203 cm), the one bed size listed | 1 to 2 |
| Shinjuku Washington Hotel | West | Twin (ツインルーム) | 178 to 210 ft² (16.5 to 19.5 m²) | Two beds, 43 in (110 cm) each, length not listed | 2 |
As of October 2026, from the room pages linked in the table. From Sotetsu Hotels, JR Kyushu Hotels and Shinjuku Washington Hotel (in Japanese): the Fresa Inn, Sunroute Plaza, Blossom and Washington pages. From Tokyu Stay: the reopening page, for the Deluxe Twin’s equipment. The inches are converted from centimeters, and the square feet from square meters.
Gracery’s Standard Double is the smallest twin row because its own description calls it a standard twin with two 120 cm beds, and its 258 ft² (24 m²) Standard Twin is one step up.
Washington’s, Granbell’s and Gracery’s rows are the smallest, at 178 to 210 ft² (16.5 to 19.5 m²), 183 ft² (17 m²) and 194 ft² (18 m²). Granbell’s two beds are 33 inches (85 cm) wide each, the narrowest beds in either table. Its Standard Twin, one step up at 205 ft² (19 m²), has 43 inch (110 cm) beds. Four hotels, Gracery, Fresa Inn, Sunroute Plaza and Blossom, list 47 inch (120 cm) beds, in rooms of 194 to 269 ft² (18 to 25 m²).

Tokyu Stay’s Deluxe Twin is the largest room in either table, and it is the other odd row. Tokyu Stay lists it for 3 guests with a 43 inch (110 cm) bed width and no bed count, and it also lists a kitchenette, microwave and washer-dryer in the room. Keio Plaza’s Standard comes as a double or a twin at the same 253 ft² (23.5 m²), so the bed type is the only difference. Its floor ranges for the two layouts overlap on the 19th and 20th floors.

Airport buses by side
Keio Plaza says it runs direct limousine buses to Narita and Haneda every day. Gracery says its Tokyu Kabukicho Tower bus stop, which connects directly to both airports, is about a 2-minute walk from the hotel. Sunroute Plaza and Blossom each state 3 minutes to Busta Shinjuku. Airport Limousine’s timetable lists the stops, and the stop nearest your hotel is the one to check for the day you travel.
As of October 2026, from Keio Plaza Hotel: the access page. From Hotel Gracery Shinjuku: the access page. From Airport Limousine: the English timetable site. Sunroute Plaza and Blossom walks are from the access sources linked in the first section.
Matching the side to the trip
- A late night in Kabukicho. Gracery’s 5 minutes from the East Exit against Granbell’s 15 is the gap to plan around, since GO TOKYO says public transport runs until around midnight.
- A bus or an early start the next morning. Sunroute Plaza and Blossom state the shortest JR walks of the eight, 3 minutes, and the same 3 to Busta Shinjuku.
- A day on the subway. Tokyu Stay, Granbell, Fresa Inn, Keio Plaza and Washington each give a shorter subway walk than JR walk, so choose by which line your first stop is on.
- A morning at the Metropolitan Government Building. Keio Plaza states 1 minute to Tocho-mae and 5 through the passage from the West Exit.
- Beds. For one bed shared by two, read Bed and Guests together. For separate beds, check Granbell’s 33 inch beds before you book it for two adults.
The short version
- The hotels state 3 minutes from the South Exit at two hotels, 5 from the West Exit at Keio Plaza, 5 from the East Exit at Gracery, about 8 from the East Exit at Tokyu Stay, and 15 and 20 at the two northeast hotels.
- At seven hotels the smallest double-bed rooms start at 156 to 253 ft² (14.5 to 23.5 m²) with beds 55 to 63 inches (140 to 161 cm) wide, Washington gives one range of 140 to 216 ft² (13 to 20.1 m²), and the smallest twins run from 178 to 323 ft² (16.5 to 30 m²).
- Keio Plaza says it runs direct limousine buses to Narita and Haneda, Gracery’s Tokyu Kabukicho Tower stop is about 2 minutes away, and Sunroute Plaza and Blossom are 3 minutes from Busta Shinjuku.
